Which Path Will You Take?

Description

Yep, the first picture of 2011 is fan art. like it really matters. A picture is a picture, doesn't matter when it was done or uploaded...

ANYWHO.
This kind of... became huge. I dunno why. But it, oddly, doesn't feel very big. Maybe because I took several days to do it, and never really worked on it for, say, more than 3 hours at a time. Maybe because there's so much red and black that colouring wasn't a big deal. I dunno. Just doesn't seem big...

If you were to say to me "Goodness, Tam, the shading here appears to be quite strange." I would reply "You are indeed correct, sir." Y'see, first is was gonna be back-lit because of how the BG turned out, but it looked... really bad. So then I decided to use those little light spots as well, light sources. (So those little lines of turquoise-y light at character's sides and such) this of course means some characters have multiple light sources... Protip: Don't do this. It's very weird.
But it's all good.

I just realized I completely forgot to do shine.
...
WHATEVER.

ANYWHO again
This is virtually every character from a obscure little PC game called The Path. It's a horror type game based on the old story of Little Red Riding Hood. The six girls are the Red sisters, who of course have to go to Grandmother's house in the middle of the forest, and they must stay on the path.
In order from left to right (also by age): Robin, Rose, Ginger, Ruby, Carmen, Scarlet. The last girl is The Girl in White, or Forest Girl. She doesn't actually have a name, and isn't related to the Red sisters. (...probably.)
Behind each of them (minus Girl in White, again) is their "wolf." As you can see, Robin's is the only one whose wolf is actually a wolf (technically it's more like a werewolf but shush) and her design is closest to tradition Riding Hoods, soooo... I made Ruby's wolf a lot creepier than he looks in-game ._. GiW's is... well, a spoiler. But I couldn't leave her out D: Besides, everything is so hard to figure out in this game that it's sort of hard to spoil anything out of context. Even IN context... well, yeah. Confusing.

Anyway. The point of the game is to, ironically, go off the path. You can explore the forest and find items and places like a bathtub and an armchair or an abandoned playground and a graveyard. Once you leave the path, though, you can't get back. Though if you stand in one place for long enough, the Girl in White will come get you and lead you back to the path. You can also find her in random areas near items and such, and get her to take you back.

The thing about the game, though, is it's... not much of a game. It's more like... I dunno really. It's very artsy, and relies a lot on the player to come up with stuff. For instance after every wolf encounter, you go back to grandma's house and it's suddenly become a mindfuck dimension full of metaphorical imagery, but all the clues about what it's all alluding to are very subtle. There are several theories surrounding each girl as a result.

So there is no real "story." (Or at least, I doubt the creators are going to tell us the real meanings behind everything. It's more fun when it's a mystery, anyway.) The only dialogue is the thoughts from the girls about the items you pick up, places you go, and stuff you interact with. There aren't really any enemies (besides the wolves, arguably) but it's very good at being atmospheric and creepy. I had to set all the graphics to the lowest cause my PC is shit, but it was still super pretty and really sucked me in. (until I forgot to play it for months...)

I'm honestly not sure why I actually babbled that much at you guys. I'd say I really want more people to play it, but... I do but I... don't?
I don't know, I'm just very confused on my opinion of the game. I enjoyed it, but my feelings about it are just "meh." It's like... consciously, I just go "It's pretty and well thought out, but... meh." and subconsciously I'm a;; "This is though-provoking and deep and really really interesting." but I can't get all excited about it.
I can't even properly tell you who my favourite character is. There some sort of struggle between Ruby and Scarlet going on there. I like Ruby's design but when I finally got around to playing her, her personality threw me off a bit, but something about her got under my skin, so to speak. And Scarlet was like, the first one I played, and for the first hour or so (I took a really long time looking for items OTL;; ) I found her boring and strict, but then I found certain items, and her wolf, and her Grandmother's house... Then after a little theorizing of my own and a lot of looking online (as much as I love these types of games and stuff that you're supposed to figure out your own ending, I'm really crap at it.) I started to really, really like. And really feel sorry for her as a result.
I SHOULD STOP NOW OR I NEVER WILL.

WELL IN ANY CASE... IT'S GOTTA BE GOOD IF I ACTUALLY DREW FAN ART, RIGHT?

Anyway... Check it out, if it sounds like your cup of tea. There's videos of all the wolf encounters on Youtube and such like that if you're not really sure about playing it, too.
In fact, just try watching this video. Gets repetitive in the second half, but still good.

I'M DONE NOW.
